Turn up the heat

Even when my family visited us in California, they were always cold. Between the Bay Area chill and the lack of good insulation, we were always used to being just a little bit shivery in our place.

So we cracked up reading in a recent Star Ledger article about various contests to see how long home owners can go without turning on the heat. The winner in Maplewood last year? That family waited until December 31st. They caved when their home was 50 degrees. That’s what our home temperature was in California each morning, since we turned off the heat every night  and snuggled under the down comforter.

Zachary wants to enter the contest this year, but I told him it was too late. Our heat went on in October.

  1. We waited until November 1 and then caved. But we live in a WARM STATE. Not NJ. Still, I have friends who have ultra-insulated houses who basically have no need for heat. Unfortunately, ours is old and drafty…
