Flouride = poison?

New Jersey ranks 49th in the U.S. (as in only Hawaii ranks lower) in providing its citizens with flouridated water. Only 22% of New Jerseyites get flouridated water.

Yes, 4 out of 5 of my fellow Garden State citizens can’t drink that kind of water. And now there’s a bill to change that. A senate panel approved the bill, but one of our assemblywomen, the chair of the Assembly Appropriations Committee, will not be posting it.

Because it’s too expensive.

Hell, I’m paying $200 a year so my kids can get flouride in their vitamins.  Adding it to the water system is too expensive?

I’ve shied away from looking too far into the controversy in the past – most of it involves people like the ones commenting on this article – please read down to the well-reasoned, intelligent comments. Oh that’s right. Those are the minority. Instead, you’ll read about flouridation being a communist plot. And it causes migraines and pustule rashes too.

Bring on the flouride. Communist plot or not – as long as my kids teeth don’t have caveties, I’m game.

  1. You know, here in Los Altos we are living in the dark ages as well, with no flouridation! I too have to keep up with the flouride prescriptions and it amazes me. In fact the bay area is peppered with communities that remarkably do not flouridate……what’s up with that?!
