Leaf Pick-up

For those of us who didn’t grow up raking (hello, Phoenix!), leaf collection is a totally new experience. In our town, For weeks, residents pile up their leaves in the street awaiting city pick-up. (Some other towns make residents bag up their leaves, or even make residents cart them all to the conservation center). The problem with piling them up in the street is that on-street parking becomes quite difficult.

I happened to be home when the trucks came to pick up the leaves recently. Our house was one of three on the block to be an initial collection spot.

here comes the scooper truck

the final pile

This is the leaf pile in front of our crosswalk going to school. Like this is safe!

And I was shocked to see how clean they left the scene after the leaves were gone.

  1. Be careful: don’t ever park on a leaf pile. In high school, someone did, and his warm car underside actually ignited the leaf pile! The leaves–and his car–burned up!
