Don’t bring a gun into NJ

Thought you’d enjoy this article about a Utah guy who legally transported his gun into NJ (en route to PA), and got jailed for it.

The executive summary:

Gun owner legally checked his unloaded firearm and ammunition in his suitcase for a trip from UT to PA (in 2005). He was transferring through Newark. Long story short, he missed one of his connections and his luggage was going to end up in Newark, not PA. He got his luggage and tried to check it in legally when getting his flight to PA (he told the airline about the contents). TSA was called and he was arrested by Port Authority police for having a gun in New Jersey without a license.

He spent 10 days in several jails before finally posted bail. Charges were only dropped months later. He didn’t get his gun back until 2008 – three years later. He sued the police. The Supreme Court dropped the case.

Welcome to New Jersey.
