The Newark Airport Parking Lot

the road to...?

I wasn’t sure we were going to make it to Newark Airport alive. We were in search of our off-airport parking lot. And believe it or not, we did not take a wrong turn to get here. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get a picture of the abandoned building with all the windows broken, with random cars parked outside. I wasn’t about to back up to get the photo. Even for your blog entertainment.

It was a little shocking to arrive at the end of the street and find the actual parking lot – albeit with a lot of razor wire at the tops of the fence. The parking attendants could not have been classier. Seriously. I handed them my keys, my Groupon certificate and they handed me back the claim check. They took all the luggage into the black Mercedes van and we had a pleasant short drive to the airport.

I have to say their employees were the most polite, nicest parking attendants ever. And when we called from the airport on our return, the shuttle was waiting for us at the curb, and they transferred our luggage to our car quickly. Even Zachary commented how polite they were.

I was, however, terrified to leave the lot and drive home. I almost asked for a van to escort us out.

  1. I had a similar experience. I was dumped on the side of the service road when I parked with SmartPark JFK but got on a JFK Long Term Parking Shuttle. The driver saw my SmartPark ticket and said, “wrong shuttle”. Left me on road just like this one but it was night time.
