Horseback Riding

You’d think that living in California, it would be easy to find horseback riding options. But I don’t think we had a place close by for lessons. Here Dori is taking lessons (and did two weeks of camp the past two summers) riding. It’s Eastern, which is totally foreign to this Arizona gal. But she’s having fun. We had to get her outfitted so she’d match all the other kids (almost all girls, but there are a few boys too) in the mandatory uniform.

These stables are owned by the county, which has about 56 horses used for the riding program.

Interestingly, while the county initially had stables elsewhere, they were moved to this location after the Army ceased using the site for a Nike missile base, where it protected the New York airways from 1957-63.

Here’s my gal!
