Flash Flood

When you’re shopping for bathing suits at Target and you get a flash flood warning on your phone, do you believe it? We didn’t. We went on shopping, only realizing 10 minutes later that it is POURING outside. And that the roof partially collapsed in the customer service area (where we had been 30 minutes earlier), knocking out a light (literally) and dumping water onto the floor.

We paid for our purchases (check out the bathing suit options at the bottom) and prepared to go to the car. Only there was a huge line of people by the door. They were waiting it out, since the parking lot had flooded (when we went to Target it was sunny).

I told Dori to wait by the door – I’d get the car. And the security guard warned me about the deep water. He wasn’t kidding. One step out and I was up to my mid-calf in water. Not a very telling photo below, but the water loved my mesh sneakers.

Had to change shoes, socks and jeans at home

Driving home was another story. The right lane was flooded – fine for the trucks going through (I missed my Explorer!), but not us.

We forgot to roll up the window when the next one went through - we got splashed.

There were reports of hail too – though we didn’t see anything. Fortunately once we got into our town, things were much better. It didn’t look bad at all!

Here are some of the suits we didn’t buy (okay, we didn’t buy any at all – there were all of 3 styles appropriate for Dori and none of them fit her well).

  1. I thought the last bathing suit was a Wonder Woman costume! Glad you made it home.
